Meet our amazing team of artists and educators, each bringing their unique approach and expertise to our studio offerings and supporting your creative practice.

Kelley Aitken

Kelley Aitken is an author and artist. She has exhibited in Canada and Ecuador and has work in many private collections and is represented in the Canada Council Art Bank collection. Her work can be seen at www.kelleyaitken.com

Love in a Warm Climate, The Porcupine’s Quill, 1998 was nominated for Best First Book, the Commonwealth Prize. She co-edited First Writes, Banff Press, 2003. Current writing projects include a novel Dreaming of Tom Thomson, and a manuscript of essays, images and poetry about art, Drawing and Love.

Kelley has taught art for over 25 years, offering private classes and workshops, and running art programs for community-based agencies serving newcomers to Canada and women experiencing long-term poverty. She has taught surface design at Sheridan College and currently teaches drawing and writing programs in the collections of the Art Gallery of Ontario.

 

Marie Boal

Since her four years at OCA, Marie has continued to explore drawing, painting, photography, and collage—nurturing her practice through ongoing instruction, mentorship, and an active creative community spanning many disciplines. In recent years, she has been building objects from found and recycled materials, drawing inspiration from puppet-making courses and the imaginative potential of shadow boxes.

Marie has exhibited her work in group shows and with artist collectives. She is also part of the ARTiculations team and is always happy to answer your questions.

 

Megan Bray

Megan is a Toronto-based visual artist who works primarily in gouache and coloured pencil, with a versatile, expressive style and deep knowledge of materials. With over a decade of experience teaching youth art programs, she is known for her vibrant pet portraits, custom gouache home portraits, and her dedication to sketchbook practice. A passionate plein air painter and urban sketcher, Megan draws inspiration from both nature and the city.

Her love of organized artistry shines through in the custom travel material kits she creates for painting on the go. Megan’s connection to ARTiculations began as a customer and late-night window display crafting pal, and she officially joined the team in 2015.

 

Heather Drawing

Heather Phillips

Heather is an artist, instructor, and the owner and co-founder of ARTiculations. She holds a BFA in Visual Arts from York University and works across drawing, painting, printmaking and facilitation. Her classes focus on helping students build a regular creative practice through sketching, watercolour, and observation.

Heather has exhibited her work in group and curated exhibitions and maintains a steady - if sometimes slow - studio practice alongside running ARTiculations and curating its exhibition and studio programming. She is currently developing a series of paintings exploring swimmers and the body in water.

Erin MacKeen

Erin is an artist, educator, designer, and professional tarot reader whose integrated practice explores care, community, and self-discovery. She works in artist-run and cooperative spaces, helping people learn to make things while building supportive, creative communities.

Rooted in storytelling, Erin’s work challenges limiting systems and invites people to express their unique perspectives. She believes in sharing tools that help us tend to one another, feel more resourced, and show up as our authentic selves in a complicated world.

Kathryn Naylor

Kathryn Naylor is a professional artist living and working in the Junction area of Toronto. She has focused on watercolours, coloured pencil, and acrylics, and has an extensive history of gallery shows as well as book illustration and teaching.

Kathryn Naylor  is a professional artist living and working in the Junction area of Toronto. She is an active member of Toronto’s West End Art Collective, participating in their exhibits and also managing the Collective website. Over the years she has focused on watercolours, coloured pencil, and acrylics, and has lately ventured into water-soluble oil painting.

For the initial inspirations of 2019, Kathryn was accepted for an Artist Residency in Northern Iceland, and spent January in a remote fishing village not far from the Arctic Circle.

Loree Ovens

Loree Ovens is a visual artist working in a variety of media including a wide range of printmaking techniques. Her specialties include etching, collagraph, drypoint, relief and screen. Her background in craft and textiles has led her to produce encaustic, sculptural and metal work. Loree is also known for her use of washi (handmade Japanese paper).

She enjoys teaching all ages & skill levels.

Loree’s work has been shown in national and international exhibitions in Canada, Japan, United States, Taiwan, Australia and Scotland. Her work is part of both private and public collections including the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, Art Gallery of New South Wales, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Australia and SGC International.

Anna Redish

Anna Redish is a self-taught art instructor who leads weekly Art Journaling classes for teens, tweens, and adults, both online and in person. Over the past four years, she has seen firsthand how Art Journaling can transform lives by fostering support, self-expression, and community.

A homeschooling mom of four grown children, Anna uses Art Journaling as a tool for mental health and encourages others to find their own safe, joyful way into creativity. Known for her fun and open “no rules” approach, she believes the first rule of Art Journaling is that there are no rules.
