Create an accountEach week's theme gives us the chance to learn techniques, properties of gouache, and play with stylizing as it applies to each subject matter - we might touch on a technique in part 1 (where we are getting to know the paints better and gaining confidence/getting comfortable using them), then dive in deeper in part 2 (where we have enough under our belt to build those skills a bit more).
Part 1: Wednesday November 26 - December 17 6:30 - 9:30 pm
-
INTRO + Basics (gouache properties, basic colour theory/ mixing, thickness...)
-
Skies (basics of masking, lifting, layering light over dark, wash, etc.)
-
Themed Spreads (sketching, dry times, edges, simplification & quantity over quality)
-
Food Studies (painting from life part 1, texture, colour matching /mixing, reworking...)
PART 2: Wednesday January 14 - February 4 6:30 - 9:30 pm
-
Curio Cabinets - Illustrative Flatlay (refresher + sketching and layer building, stylizing, composition...)
-
Landscapes (loose thin studies, notes on plein air and reference, adjusting to time frame, longer thicker studies)
-
Sentimental Still Life (painting from life part 2, items with a story, still life, colour mixing, refining, details...)
-
Patterns & Precision (Design, precision, brush and flow control, thickness, consistency, edges, finishing options..)
What is Gouache anyway?!
Gouache (rhymes with squash, say it like gwaash!) is an opaque watercolour paint with a very matte finish. Traditional gouache is always re-wettable, whereas acrylic gouache is permanent once dry.
